From a total of 2,733 entries from 56 countries, Francisco Lindoro, a student at the MA programme of Advanced Product Design was acknowledged with two Red Dots awards in the Design Concept category 2009. Presently Francisco is doing an internship at Philips design department for consumer electronics in Amsterdam.

The first project was his concept ”Childbirth assistance outside hospitals”, a concept that was acknowledged in both the IDEA and INDEX award earlier this year.
"As more complex problems are addressed, a single product is not sufficient, the award is seeing a greater number of well thought out systems integrated with well-
designed products. "Equipment to attend childbirths outside hospitals” confronts infant mortality rates head-on with a system to ensure safe births when there are no
hospitals in vicinity.”
(Quotation from the jury’s observations that is available as a link below)

The second project awarded was his "Bone Repair Therapy”, a concept developed in the term project Strategic Design at the Advanced Product Design Programme during the spring. This year it was the brand and products from the healthcare division of Philips that were analysed by the students, in order for them to identify design opportunities and define new relevant product applications. Francisco’s concept for "Bone Repair Therapy” is a new type of a wearable devise, placed and worn on the body together with the plaster bandage that uses ultrasound therapy to speed up the healing process after a bone fracture.
