Martin Willers, Anton Östebo, two former students, and Richard Stark, a current student, from the bachelor program in Industrial Design were awarded during the "Interior Motives Design Awards 2009” with the first prize in the category Best Safety Innovation for their project "Active Truck Seat”.

Their project was competing with many other from design schools all over the world. It was shortlisted (top 15) in two out of eight categories and was finally awarded with 500euros and a trophy on 16th of September at the Cocoon Club of Frankfurt. All the winner’s projects were displayed in the IMAA Frankfurt Auto Show.

The "Active Truck Seat” was completed in cooperation with Volvo 3p as a semester project in UID. During the project the truck driver’s position in urban and construction site environments was studied. Using technology adapted from the popular Nintendo Wii Fit balance board they created an active feedback system that allows the driver’s chair to automatically adjust according to the driver’s position. The key points for winning the award were their focus in ergonomic research and their study in technology possibilities.

Worth mentioning is that another student of UID, Son Wan-Ryeol, current student of the master programme in Transportation Design was within the three finalists in the category of "Best use of Technology”.
