The Design Research Society held its bi-annual international conference in Montreal (Canada) last week and Umeå Institute of Design (UID) had a strong presence at the 3-day event called DRS 2010: Design & Complexity.

Anna Valtonen, UID rector, presented her work titled Is Systemic Design the Next Big Thing for the Design Profession? Erik Stolterman, recently appointed UID&s Senior Research Advisor, gave a keynote address called Improving Design Without Destroying It.

Camille Moussette, PhD student, introduced the Sketching in Hardware vision with his work Sketching in Hardware and Building Interaction Design: Tools, Toolkits and an Attitude for Interaction Designers co-authored with Fabricio Dore, Interaction Designer at IDEO and UID alumnus. PhD student Daniela Rothkegel was also present at the conference and was actively discussing design research topics with leading thinkers from the field.
