A project initiated by You Le Chong, former student at the Interaction Design Programme at UID, has been granted a sum of many millions from EU. You Le Chong&s degree project was called "Green Umea" and its goal was to make it easier and more enjoyable for the inhabitants of Umeå to live green and to recycle. The funded project is called "Green citizens of Europe" and the project leader is Umeå Municipality. Collaborators are among others the municipalities of Bjurholm, Nordmaling, Vännäs, Robertsfors and Vindeln, Umeå Energi and Umeå City Airport. One of the ambitions of the project is to develop the already established collaboration between Umeå Municipality and UID and the Arts Campus.

The aim is for it to be fun and easy to live sustainable. At a conference in Åbo, Finland in 2011, and a conference in Umeå in 2014, the best examples and ideas for sustainable living and travelling in Europe will be presented.
