"There are no speed limits on the road to excellence." David W. Johnson

When the Students& Sports Day took place on Tuesday the 16th, the IDI course had the opportunity to try out a real snowmobile as a research phase for their new project in which they will design a snowmobile; the theme is "personal mobility for extreme cold conditions". The exhibition will take place the 12th of March in the Project Studio.

Per Silhén from Struktur|Design arranged for the students to spend a day at 4 Säsonger (4 Seasons), a company that sells experiences as well as snowmobiles, boats, helmets and so on. There the students had the chance to look closely at sport snowmobiles that can reach a speed of 180 kilometres per hour and which you mostly drive for fun, and also work snowmobiles that can be used for working in the woods and rescue missions for instance. After inspecting the different vehicles closely the students went for a ride on Umeälven, the river of Umeå. They had the opportunity to drive the snowmobile alone and in pairs.

The organizers had made a track for the students to follow, but one of the students missed a turn and went for an exiting snowmobile sightseeing adventure. The students and the organizers were a bit worried because the student disappeared and was gone far too long. Finally Mats Hammarstedt, a representative of 4 Säsonger, fetched another snowmobile and went on a rescue mission and a couple of minutes later he came back with the student, safe and sound.
