"The urge for good design is the same as the urge to go on living." Harry Bertoia

Friday April 8th, the one-year course IDI, Industrial Design Introduction, had an exhibition of their Transportation Project.

The IDI students had the challenge to design a delivery vehicle to be used in their home cities. The vehicle could be no more than three meters long, and it not only had to deliver a product or service effectively, but the students also had to take into consideration the environment and the identity of the their home town. The group used design research to identify a delivery need and to solve the transportation problem. The project gave the students the opportunity to study vehicle packaging as well as form and identity in transportation.

One of the students& designs aimed at aiding the garbage workers to be able to collect garbage with ease and access to the narrow streets of Ankara with an environmental mini truck. Another vehicle was aimed towards children in remote parts of Taiwan, and the vehicle was intended to deliver knowledge, not only in physical books and e-books but also in multimedia.

Other design proposals for delivery vehicles were for instance delivery of furniture, medical supplies, local organic vegetables and parcel delivery.
