"The only important thing about design is how it relates to people." Victor Papanek
Out of 5,500 contributions in this year&s iF award, 100 students were awarded the If concept award. One of them was the MA programme Advanced Product Design&s Matthias Menzel. He received acknowledgement for his concept "Move On" which he developed and designed during his first term project at the Umeå Institute of Design.
His design concept "Move On" is a temporary training device that helps stroke patients to recover faster. The muscle signals of those affected by a stroke are too low for complete contraction, but "Move On" senses those low muscle signals and translates them into the desired movement. The concept literary helps people to move on and get integrated into a normal life again.
The iF award has six categories and offers students and recent graduates from the fields of design, architecture, marketing and engineering, an opportunity to compare themselves on an international level and to present their ideas to the design-interested public.
