INDEX:Award Nominations for UID Students

"Good design doesn&t cost, but it pays." Richard H. Driehaus

Almost 1000 designs from more than 70 countries were nominated for the INDEX:Award. 10 of those designs came from UID students. The winners will be presented in Copenhagen, Denmark in September.

Seven students from Umeå Institute of Design were nominated for projects they have carried out during their studies at UID. Six of the students are from the Advanced Product Design programme, three current and three alumni students, and one student is from the Transportation Design programme, nominated for his BA degree project.

APD student Malin Grummas is nominated for three concepts in the INDEX:Award. One of the nominations is for her CAS - Clean Air System concept, a project she worked on during her MA studies. Grummas is also nominated for SeeMe, a communication tool that helps the child&s development by supporting his or hear stories from their day. Grumma&s third nomination was for the concept ICIO, a hybrid of a walker and a scooter for seniors. The two latter concepts were carried out when Malin studied the BA programme in industrial design at UID.

APD student Cenk Aytekin is nominated for his concept MICO, an interactive communication tool encouraging active family conversations, and for the HOC Rescue Cutting Tool, which ensures the safety of the rescue personnel by providing improved physical ergonomics and higher flexibility.

John Lee, one of the current APD nominees was nominated for his concept Halcyon, a utility vehicle designed for fire fighters to minimize risk of cancer occurrence.

Current Transportation Design programme student Richard Stark&s concept Neptune, an aid for swimming that suits most common levels of amputation, was another of the nominated concepts. The concept was his BA degree project.

The concept Tree Planting Robot by APD alumni Anna-Karin Bergkvist is among the nominees for this year&s INDEX: Award.

UID alumni student Vanessa Sattele was nominated for her Home hemodialysis unit, Home HD, a concept she carried out as her master&s thesis at UID.

Antonio Aguilar&s degree project Mobile first aid kit for miners, a rescue station for miners that contains a range of rescue equipment helpful for rescuing a wounded mine worker.
