MFA Degree Project in Advanced Product Design

20-week course


The design opportunities identified and addressed in the degree projects covered as diverse and challenging themes as: A training system for CPR supported by a new business structure. A product and app and service offer that will support more frequent CPR training for a larger number of people. A modular full-face diving mask optimised in size and functionality for divers in first response services. Personalassistance companion for children with epilepsy and their parents. A smart rehabilitation bracelet that continuously monitors injured knees or helps with performance enhancing. A physical training solution, supported by a digital app, for medical professionals to train the procedures for safer caesarean sections. A tool to help coping and empowering patients suffering from chronic pain through the use of wrist worn input device, app and AI. The next generation welding helmet supported by infrared camera technology and interface to ensure and support the correct settings and workflow. A futuristic vision of the procedure and solution for mining platinum group metals from asteroids by the year 2040. A concept for a new type of left ventricular assist device of patients with heart problems.An audio device that reduces the discomfort of noise sensitivity while gently increasing exposure overtime. A collaborative workbench system with collaborative robotics that assists the operator and takes over repetitive and high precision tasks. An autonomous solution that simplifies the asbestos abatement in buildings in a safer and less time-consuming way. A digital application that translates electronic health records into age appropriate health literacy for children diagnosed with a chronic disease.

This wide span of new ideas and designs to improve and enrich our daily life is an indicator of the design opportunities just waiting to be identified and addressed by the professional industrial designer.
