Nils-Erik Gustafsson

"You learn as long as you have students."

Nils-Erik Gustafsson is a recurrent visiting lecturer at Umeå Institute of Design and tutored the first time at the school in 1996. When he is not here at UID he works at IT-Arkitekterna in Stockholm. This week he answers five questions about himself and about Umeå Institute of Design.

What are you doing at Umeå Institute of Design?

I am teaching usability and interaction design at Master&s level and I also teach basic information ergonomics (human factors) to the BA-students.

Is there anything you find particularly positive about UID?

I enjoy the creative atmosphere and the school&s melting pot of nationalities and cultures.

Is there anything you would like to improve at UID?

I would like the different programmes to have more collaboration together, and also with the Academy of Fine Arts, and later on with Umeå School of Architecture as well. Cooperation is something everyone needs to be really good at.

What do you think are the reasons for the good reputation of Umeå Institute of Design?

UID attracts capable students and they leave UID as even more capable industrial designers. I think it is beneficial for UID that this is an explicit industrial design school. I am both happy and proud to work here.

What will you be doing in ten years?

I hope that I am still teaching in ten years.
