Biography/Background

Canan received her Ph.D. from Industrial Product Design Department of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2010. Her Ph.D. thesis focuses on the role of interaction design in information and communication technologies embedded product development activities. She holds a masters (MArch) and a bachelor degree in architecture (BArch) in Istanbul. Canan worked as a research and teaching fellow at the Department of Communication Design at Yildiz Technical University (Istanbul) and has been working as a research and teaching fellow at Computational Design Unit of Architecture Department at the same university prior to joining Umeå Institute of Design. 
Since February 2011 Canan has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Design Research Group at Umeå Institute of Design. Her postdoctoral research focuses on the collaboration among industrial design, interaction design and service design in early design process. Her research consists of multidisciplinary literature review and also a series of interviews with professionals from different design disciplines.

Area of interest

Design processes, interaction design, service design, changing role of design professions, collaboration in early design process, user research, ethnographic research.
